What kind of material you use for the shutter?
We use the kiln-dried basswood. The best hard wood available for shutters and blinds. A lot of
our competitors use Cedar to build their shutters. Obviously, we don't. Why not? Cedar shutters
mill and finish nicely, but color often varies greatly during staining which means that two identically
-prepared sets of shutters can look completely different side by side and ruin the look of a room.
Cedar is also soft and can dent and scratch easily. This also means that tilt bar staples and hinges
(two integral shutter components) do not hold well. Cedar wood shutters just do not offer the
durability and uniform finish that you will get from Basswood shutters.
Basswood interior wood shutters are very hard, straight and durable, and have a fine uniform
texture with an indistinct grain. Basswood machines well and is easy to work, and screws and
glues well and can be sanded and stained to a smooth finish. It dries fairly rapidly with little
distortion. Because of this, all of ourwood shutters have fantastic dimensional stability when dry.
We also carry the Vinyl and PVC shutters.
What paint and stain colors are available?
We have six painted colors and six stained colors available include White, Pearl, Alabaster, Chalk,
Swiss Coffee, Off White, Natural, Cedar, Mohagany, Golden Oak, Walnut, and Ebony.
We can
also match custom colors
provided by the homeowner, for extra charge.
What louver size are available?
In our plantation style of louver, we offer 2-1/2", 3-1/2", 4-1/2" louver widths.
Can I have shutters installed on my door?
Yes, we can manufacture shutters for French doors and sliding glass doors. With French
doors, the shutter is mounted directly onto the door itself. In the case of sliding glass doors,
there are a couple of mounting options. One way is to mount the shutters on hinges so that
they fold off to the side of the sliding glass door when opened. They can also be mounted
on an overhead tracking system and slide back and forth in a by-pass type system.
Can I have shutters made for my arched windows?
Yes, we can custom build a shutter to fit virtually any window opening. This
includes arch, rake, triangles, octagons, circles, and trapezoids. We can also
build a shutter to any design that you may have in mind. Visit our photo gallery for example.
Do I have any options if I do not want a tilt rod to run down the center of the shutter?
Yes, along with the normal centered tilt rod, we also offer a hidden louver control rod.
This option tends to offer greater visibility through the shutter. How long will it take until my custom shutters are installed?
From the date that we receive the order confirmation, your shutters will take
anywhere
from 4 to 6 weeks before installation.
How do you price your product?
We price our product based on per square feet. Price include all material, tax, and
installation. All doors, irregular shapes, and fancy frames generally cost more.
Will I have to install the shutters myself?
No, we have trained employees who will install the shutters for you in your home.
How do I clean my plantation shutters?
Plantation shutters can be cleaned by using a slightly damp cloth. Simply open up the shutter
and wipe the louvers from the backside. There are no special cleaning products or tools
needed.
